Helping young engineers explore the science behind renewable energy
Quaybridge recently made a donation to help fund educational activity packs for primary school children in Orkney. The outreach packs, which have a particular focus on renewable energy and wind generation, are aimed at helping schools deliver a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) program that’s over and above the national curriculum.
The packs were created by RAiSE (Raising Aspirations in Science Education), which works with Education Scotland. At Quaybridge, we’re very keen to help Scottish people benefit from their own offshore wind industry – so we are more than happy to donate to a project that will give the next generation of offshore wind engineers a head start.
We have initiated a number of projects to help Scottish businesses benefit from the growing offshore wind industry – in both the short and long term – but we also see great advantage in supporting other schemes that have the same aims. In fact, this donation is part of a wider collaboration with Education Scotland that led to the creation of a dedicated schools page which is available on our website. It has interactive guides enabling junior and secondary school students to see the full range of jobs available in the offshore wind industry and is free to use.
We hope that this donation will give young engineers and school science clubs a chance to explore the science behind renewable energy. We are really excited about the development of the next generation of offshore wind in Scotland, and already have budget set aside to support many more projects like this, subject to Quaybridge being awarded a site in the latest Scotland leasing round.
